Tennis Ball Therapy

Tennis Ball Therapy

In Kinesiology, I’ve been learning about “tennis ball therapy”–using tennis balls to stretch, massage, and strengthen your back and feet.

One way to do this is to put two tennis balls in a tube sock (^^see picture). Place the tennis balls between the first vertebras of your spine (in your cervical spine). As you move the tennis balls down the line of your spine, you’ll feel and hear each one of your vertebras partake in multiple pops and cracks. It feels amazing!

You can also stretch out the arches of your feet using a single tennis ball (no tube sock required for this). Place your metatarsals (the ball of your foot) on the tennis ball, but don’t let your toes touch it. Put all of your weight onto it, and stay in the position for two minutes (try not to engage your quads or lock your knees). Next, place the tennis ball under the heel of your foot, put all of your weight into it, and stay in the position for one minute.

Walk around after you’ve done one foot. It’ll feel so different and rejuvenated! Enjoy your new, happier back and feet!
